Welcome!
Hello! You are receiving this newsletter because you have
previously expressed interest in maintaining the quality of life in Damascus,
you wanted to be kept informed and/or you wanted to be more involved in the
process of creating the most livable future for yourself and your family. Good
news! Opportunity is now knocking on your monitor screen!
For the last fifteen months the Committee for the Future of Damascus has been working on educating ourselves and the Damascus community about the options available to us following the Urban Growth Boundary expansion, which was passed by the Metro Council in December 2002. Members of CFD, which includes residents, business owners and property owners in the Damascus area, staffed an information booth at Damascus Day in the Park last summer. We were privileged to offer a voice for community residents by conducting a survey about the community’s strengths and weaknesses. The results of that survey are available on our website at damascusstudy.org and were presented to interested community members at our first forum at Deep Creek School in October of last year. This forum not only offered information to community members, it sought input from them regarding their hopes for the future and allowed CFD members to fulfill needs in our community. Can You See The Future?
As the Damascus area heads into a new phase in our history,
you also have an opportunity to fulfill needs in our community. Right now there
is an urgent need for Neighborhood Representatives from each area in Damascus.
These Representatives will be part of a Steering Committee that will identify
the Core Values of our citizens. These Core Values will in turn be the
framework upon which the Concept Plan for the whole area will be based.
Becoming a voice for your neighborhood is only one very important way you can
be involved in creating the best future possible for Damascus.
Being involved in the creation of the future of Damascus is really a very unique opportunity unprecedented in the United States. The current UGB expansion is the largest in Oregon history and offers unparalleled chances to nurture both our place and our sense of belonging to this place. To make a difference in issues affecting our community and to protect your own self-interest you only have to contact us at our website, damascusstudy.org, and indicate your interest in volunteering. Whether as a Neighborhood Representative, grant writer, telephone tree member, data entry person, poster of flyers or organizer, your contribution of time and skills would be of great value to the community! What better way to show that democracy is learned, and best practiced, at home? Please join the dedicated, professional-in-all-but-pay members of the Committee for the Future of Damascus by calling Diana Lobo at (503) 658-8169 or sending an email to volunteer@damascusstudy.org. And thanks for your time and interest! |
